2025-2026 Board of Directors Applications Now Open

The Society of Interventional Oncology (SIO) is accepting applications for its board of directors until Friday, 22 August 2025. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of interventional oncology by serving in a leadership role within SIO. 

Open Positions (Terms Begin February 2026):

  • Director at Large – Three-year term (multiple openings)
  • President-Elect – Two-year term (one opening)
  • Treasurer – One-year term (one opening)

All SIO members in good standing are encouraged to apply. We are seeking individuals who demonstrate leadership potential, strategic thinking, and a strong commitment to advancing the field of interventional oncology.

The position description for the Director at Large is as follows:

Term Length: Three years

Position Type: Voting Member of the Board of Directors

Role Overview: Directors-at-Large serve as key contributor and thought leader for the Society, helping to shape the direction of SIO in alignment with its mission to advance the field of interventional oncology. As full voting members of the Board of Directors, Directors-at-Large are expected to bring broad perspective, sound judgment, and a commitment to organizational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and oversight of SIO’s strategic priorities and policies.
  • Provide insight and input on initiatives across education, research, advocacy, and member engagement.
  • Offers perspective and subject-matter expertise on the evolving landscape of interventional oncology and its implications for the Society.
  • Participate actively in Board meetings (two in-person, monthly virtual) and the Annual Scientific Meeting.
  • Support organizational fundraising, partnership efforts, and ambassadorial functions.
  • Uphold the organization’s fiduciary responsibilities and code of conduct.
  • Serve as a board liaison to committees, task forces, or special projects as assigned. Responsibilities as the board liaison include:
    • Interpret how the overall goals of SIO fit into the specific functions of the committee.
    • Communicate the goals of the Board of Directors and how these fit into the committee objectives. (i.e. what the board wants the committee to accomplish).
    • Teach/mentor committee chairs on the scope of their role and responsibilities. Provide specific direction for the committee chair if needed.
    • Ensure committee is following Board of Directors approved charge and meeting annually set objectives.
    • Oversee transition from previous chair to new chair.
    • Bring requests from the committee back to the Board of Directors.
    • Communicate committee progress back to the Board of Directors during board meetings via monthly committee reports/verbal updates.
    • Bring any budgetary requests from the committee and submit (via staff) to the Executive Director, Treasurer, Finance Committee or Board of Directors  (depending on scope of request) for consideration.
    • Attend committee meetings as an ad-hoc member as available
    • Attend executive committee meetings as requested for leadership check-ins
    • Appointed annually by the President, with advice and consent of the Executive Committee
