As an initiative of the Research Development Sub-Committee, SIO welcomes the second year of “Talk Tuesdays,” a virtual series, which includes free educational lectures designed for trainees and early-career interventional radiologists.

Over the course of six interactive discussions in June and July, IO experts will discuss the basics of research and development to illustrate how to build your own research project and how to think scientifically. The overall goal is to promote IO research awareness and diversity among early career diagnostic and interventional radiologists and to build and inspire the next generation of IO researchers.

By attending the full series live or on-demand, you could be eligible for two awards:

Abstract Travel Award

SIO Young IO Research Fellowship Award (NEW!)

Requirements:
  • Participate in 2023 Talk Tuesday's lecture series (must attend all 6 lectures live or complete all recorded modules)
  • Submit an abstract for SIO2024 *Abstract submissions open August, 2023
  • Hold a current, active membership with SIO

Requirements:
  • Participate in 2023 Talk Tuesday's lecture series (must attend all 6 lectures live or complete all recorded modules
  • Submit a research strategy/letter of intent (1 page) for an IO research project (clinical, translational) that
    • Is based on an innovative and interesting hypothesis and research plan (rather than exttensive preliminary results)
    • Is feasible and is likely to be pursued by the applicant (e.g. initial proof-of-concept analyses no large funding requirements)
    • Potential to become larger project
    • Simple retrospective dada analyses or projects in established labs are ineligible
  • Submit up-to-date CV, letter of support from research supervisor
  • Hold a current, active membership with SIO

Award Includes:
  • SIO2024 Abstract oral presentation or e-poster slot
  • One complimentary hotel night for SIO2024
  • Complimentary registration to the SIO2024 Annual Scientific Meeting
  • $2,000 USD stipend to assist with travel and housing costs for SIO2024

Award Includes:
  • Award of $2,500 USD following the SIO2024 Annual Scientific Meeting (to be used for travel to visit mentor or preliminary research materials)
  • SIO2024 Travel Stipend of ($500 USD (local), $750 (domestic), or $1,000 (international) to assist with travel and housing costs
  • Complimentary registration to the SIO2024 Annual Scientific Meeting
  • Opportunity to present research project at the SIO2024 Annual Scientific Meeting in Long Beach, California.
  • Awardee will be paired with with an SIO Research Development Sub-Committee faculty member based on common interest, who will serve as a mentor to the awardee for six (6) months.
Both award timelines will run concurrently to the annual call for scientific abstracts, with submissions and materials due with abstract submissions. Review for awards will begin in the fall with notifications sent in November 2023.
